Hard Rock International struck a deal with a Californian Native-American tribe over a casino development. The casino operator and the tribe will create a new gaming resort in the state. The venue will cost over $600 million and Hard Rock’s partners will be the Tejon Indian Tribe.
The facility’s location is will be a spot in Kern County. If the plan is kept in its current form, the facility will generate more than 3,000 jobs between its construction needs and everyday operations of a working facility.
The Tejon tribe enjoys the federal recognition and this allows it to use 306 acres of its land that the US government holds in a trust. The planned casino will cover about 52 acres of the same property. The plot of land is a 25-minute drive south from the city of Bakersfield. Besides a resort, the tribe allocated an addition 22 acres to create an RV park. Overall, the facility will provide its visitors with a casino, but also a hotel, spa, and fitness facilities.
For their food and drink needs, the visitors will have access to 13 different bars and restaurants. Besides this, the business will include a large concert venue and a conference and meeting space that will be the biggest in the county.
Future of the Project
The start date of the development is not inside of the official statement which both parties signed. Currently, the project is undoubtedly waiting for the green light from the local officials, as well as the federal government. They will examine the impact on the environment that the facility might have.
But, the economic impact on the local community is clear. The chairman of the Trejon, Octavio Escobedo, stated that the partnership with Hard Rock is an important step for the tribe. The project they are undertaking will have, according to Escobedo, have a great impact on the local economy. Jim Allen, who is the Hard Rock’s CEO, said that his company is equally excited about the possibility this project might bring to California’s gambling market.
The venue is especially important for Hard Rock. With it, the operator will increase its influence over the state’s industry. Already, it is working on the big project Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sacramento in Fire Mountain. A tribal casino in the present location will be just one more asset the casino operator wields in this huge market.
