Almost three years after its initial inception, the Star Entertainment Group casino resort is moving along. The facility is on Queen’s Wharf in Brisbane, one of Australia’s major cities. Excavation began at the site once it got its approval from the regulators in 2016. However, it took two and a half years for the actual contraction equipment to appear.
Now, the first tower crane is at the location and nine others will follow in the months to come. This also means that the proper construction phase is starting for the Queen’s Wharf project. The set up crane will take part in the construction of the first of four hotels and residential towers. An additional crane will arrive at the property in the coming days to assist with the same tower.
Eight other ones will arrive at the site as the towers themselves are built. Kate Jones, the Tourism Minister of Queensland, said that the ten crane towers will show the extent of the development in the city. She expects that the project will make long term jobs in Brisbane. Currently, the estimates of the new permanent jobs put the number at 8,000.
All this shows that the facility will be a huge complex covering entertainment, hospitality and gambling. At the same time, she hopes that the project will be a game-changer for the entire region’s tourism industry. When ready, the facility alone should generate tens of millions of dollars annually for the regional government.
The consortium building this huge project is optimistic about their future business. The complex will include four individual hotels and residential towers. These will house 2,000 residential apartments, a single casino and over 50 food and beverage establishments. Its public area will be an equivalent of 12 combine football fields. The construction alone will use about 2,000 temporary jobs. All of these will work throughout the project’s development.
The resort should open its doors in 2022 at the earliest. Currently, Star Entertainment Group runs two additional venues in the same city. These are the Hotel Brisbane and Treasury Casino. When the new facility on the Queen’s Wharf is done and ready for its opening, the operator will not seek a new license. Instead, Star will transfer its current license from Treasury Casino to the new venue. This means that the old casino will likely stop offering gambling services at the same moment.
