One South American nation is getting a new major casino resort. The project will begin in the near future. Cipriani, a company that operates clubs and hotels around the world will be financing it. The venue will be located in the Punta del Este, a coastal town in Uruguay. The finished project will have a price tag of $450 million.
The facility will become a part of the San Rafael Hotel. This Tudor-style facility is currently in a neglected state. However, the casino project will include a restoration as well as building a new part of the structure. In the end, the casino and hotel should work in unison on the same address.
Cipriani is looking to faithfully resort the old hotel and use the original design. The facility will include a residence part, but also restaurants, spa, theater, boutiques, serviced beach club, pool and finally the casino floor itself. The investor is looking to keep the historic heritage, but also add modern sensibility to get a timeless luxury experience for visitors in Punta del Este.
The company behind this project is truly not a stranger to these types of developments. Once the owner of New York’s Rainbow Room, the company still possesses a range of venues across the famous regions of the world. In operates Harry’s Bar in Venice, as well as hospitality facilities in Dubai, Monte Carlo, Las Vegas, Dubai and Hong Kong. These cities also show that the business is heavily leaning towards locations with a strong casino industry.
Punta del Este already has three casinos so the company will have some strong competition. Yet, the Cipriani management believes they will have a solid offer. The new expansion of the facility will offer 164 suites, while the original hotel will provide 70 newly refurbished residential units. This means that the venue will offer a choice between regular hotel rooms and these units.
But, at the same time, the casino floor will have to be up to the task as well. The biggest existing casino in the city, the Conrad, has an impressive offering. It provides 550 slot machines and 75 live table games to its visitors. Still, the city has the reputation of being the Monaco of the South, which includes a steady and constant stream of gamblers. Additionally, the appeal of South America as a gambling destination is growing. Cipriani hopes to get into the same action by 2021 when the casino should be complete.
